What to expect from your solid surface countertop:

One of the biggest benefits to having solid surface countertops as opposed to granite or quartz countertops is the fact that solid surface countertops have impervious seams that are virtually invisible.  Similar to granite countertops and quartz countertops, solid surfacing is non-porous so they are naturally stain-resistant.  This also means that they are hygenic, resisting bacteria.  They are also tough enough to withstand use and abuse of everyday living.

Although many people like the variation and inconsistency of color in granite, solid surface countertops are very consistent in color and pattern, which appeals to many other people.  In fact, it also has the widest variety of colors and styles.  Although some variation can occur from one slab to another, it is generally is not noticeable.  This also means that color samples are very accurate for making your solid surface countertop selections.  Solid surfacing has a very smooth texture with little to no variation.

Solid surface countertops are available in different gloss levels, but the standard finish is matte, which requires the least amount of maintenance.  This finish will acquire a satin patina over time.  Solid surfacing is stain resistant, but it will scorch, discolor and even crack when it is exposed to very high, concentrated heat.  It is always recommended that you always use trivets underneath hot pots and other concentrated sources of heat.

Unlike quartz countertops and granite countertops, solid surface countertops are relatively soft and are more prone to scratching.  Although it is resistant to chipping and cracking, excessive weight or force can cause cracks, and they will scratch.  It is always recommended that a cutting board always be used for cutting and chopping. However, solid surface is one of the only materials that is fully repairable.
