Quartz countertops are perfect for kitchen and bath use because they are nonporous. This means that quartz is a safe surface for food prepration and cannot absorb any stains, bacteria, or odors. Did you know that quartz countertops are actually stronger and more durable than granite?  That's right!  They are basically maintenance free too, so you will spend less time maintaining your new quartz countertop and more time enjoying family gatherings and dining experiences.

What to expect from your Quartz Countertop:

Quartz countertops can be produced in a variety of natural and designed colors with several different edging options.  The non-porous nature of the stone provides maximum resistance to stains and does not require any sealing.  It also greatly reduces the potential for bacterial growth, is resistant to cracks, stains and scratches, and is structurally more heat resistant when compared to other natural stones- including granite.

However, like most materials, excessive force and/or pressure from objects can damage the surface. It is never recommended that you sit upon the edges of your counters or that you place hot dishes directly on the surface to prevent damage.  You should also never stand on your new quartz counters for similar reasons. 

Unlike granite, which varies significantly in color and pattern, quartz is very consistent.  Some color variation can occur from one slab to another but generally is not noticeable.  Generally, quartz countertops come in a high gloss finish, but some colors are available in a leather or honed finish.   Quartz has a very smooth texture with no pitting and little variation.

Quartz is much more resistant to cracks and scratches than natural stone, and the lack of internal fissures make it very unlikely that cracking and chipping would occur.  Quartz is the hardest of countertop materials, but it is always recommended that a cutting board always be used for cutting and chopping.  Seams are visible to varying degrees and is dependent upon the color selection.
